Abstract
An important aspect of the building services system which can have arnmajor effect on the provision of occupant comfort within a building is thernadopted control strategy. This paper investigates the use of a supervised fuzzyrncontroller as a means of achieving good standards of comfort provision forrnoccupants while maintaining or improving energy and cost efficiencies for thernoperation of the building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)rnservices. This represents a multi-variant controls objective which is capablernof being fulfilled by a fuzzy controller. Simulation results shows that thernproposed controller is able to improve the comfort conditions provided as wellrnas the energy and cost efficiencies of the operation of the HVAC plant whenrncompared with normal plant considering PID controller. This benchmarkrncomparison is used to assess the benefits of using the supervised fuzzy controlrnstrategy.
